A plate heater comprises a glass plate 1 and at least one glass tube 3 containing a resistance heating element 4 bonded to the plate by a heat resistant adhesive 2, the coefficient of expansion of the glass of the plate and the glass of the tube(s) being less than 25 x 10<SP>-7</SP>/‹C. The glass may be crystalline or quartz glass and the adhesive 2 may be made from a slurry of crystalline glass and clay in water, or crystalline glass and water glass. As shown nichrome resistance elements 4 are connected in parallel. The plate heater may be used as a domestic hot plate or a room heater. |
