A battery is made from a continuous web of crimped filaments by the method claimed in Specification 1,182,674 with the additional feature of directing gas downwardly onto the web 9, during its movement to the moving surface 18 on which it is deposited in overlapping folds, so as to increase its falling rate. The gas issues from outlets 30 in supply tanks 28, 29 attached to the walls of the chute 13 which oscillates about pivot 17 so as to feed the web onto the surface 18. Preferably the gas is directed along a path making an angle of 10-70‹ with the path along which the web is fed onto surface 18.</p> |
