1,165,447. Stabilizing PVC. NATIONAL LEAD CO. 3 Nov., 1967 [4 Nov., 1966], No. 50197/67. Heading C3P. [Also in Division C1] Dehydrated tribasic lead sulphate 3PbO, PbS0 4 having an X-ray diffraction pattern with characteristic d spacings in the vicinity of 3.45 Š, 3À10 Š and 2À75 Š and an I.R. absorption peak at 9.4 microns prepared by heating 3PbO.PbSO 4 .H 2 O at 180-400‹ C. is used as a stabilizer in polymeric organic plastic materials such as PVC and other halogen-containing polymers, and is added in amounts of from 0.5 to 25 wt. per cent based on the weight of said polymer. In Example 9, a composition is made up consisting of polyvinyl chloride resin, acrylic processing aid, lead caprylate, TiO 2, and tribasic lead sulphate. Examples are also given of stabilizing vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer and plasticized PVC.
|
