1,157,876. Forging hammers. KOBE STEEL Ltd. 27 July, 1966 [27 July, 1965], No. 33769/66. Heading B3H. A forging hammer has its tup 4 raised by two pairs of jacks 7, 8 respectively which operate on alternate forging cycles. The tup 4 passes through a gas pressure cylinder 1 and carries an upper piston 2 engageable within a chamber 3 to which pressure gas may be admitted through valve 6 and conduit 20 for initiating the downstroke. The workpiece which may be heated, is supported on anvil 21 mounted on a spring- loaded block 22. The latter carries two pairs of diagonally opposite jack cylinders 9, 10 respectively containing lifting jacks 7, 8 respectively operated by pressure oil. Each jack carries a pawl assembly 13 which engages the underside of the tup. The pawls co-operate with fixed pistons 15 and are withdrawn by admission of hydraulic fluid. After a forging stroke the two opposite jacks 7 are energized to raise the tup until piston 2 enters chamber 3 whereby the tup will then be held in its upper position by gas pressure in cylinder 1; the pawls are then withdrawn. After the next forging stroke the tup is raised by the other pair of jacks 8. The pawls may alternatively be actuated mechanically. |
