Apparatus for resistance welding chain links by means of a welded joint in one of the long sides of a link comprises two pairs of clamping members which pairs are relatively movable towards and away from each other and are adapted each to clamp one of the link ends to be welded with one of the clamping members of each pair forming an electrode, one of the clamping members of each pair having a recess for receiving the jointless long side of a link and the other clamping member of each pair having a groove to engage a link end. In one embodiment a first pair of clamping members 20, 28, Fig. 3, clamp one end 23 of a link 22 and a second pair 25, 29 clamp the other end 24, the members 28, 29 being connected to a source of current 30. The link 22 is arranged vertically between the clamping members, the upper members 20, 25 each having a recess 37, Fig. 4, to receive the upper part of the link with clearance and acting through adjacent links 21, 26 to press the ends 23, 24 into V-shaped grooves 27 in the lower clamping members 28, 29. The links 21, 26 are supported in a horizontal position by insulated supports 33, 34 or by extended members 28, 29 which engage adjacent links 31, 32. For welding long links the adjacent links are pushed forward to engage between the upper clamping members and link ends. In a modification for welding long links a pair of straight bars are provided between the upper clamping members and the link ends. |
