A photographic gelatino silver halide colour emulsion having a pH of about 5À5 contains at least 1% by weight of a dispersed colour coupler, the dispersion being stabilised by the presence of a water-soluble nonionic protective colloid other than gelatine, such as polyvinyl pyrollidone or a polyethylene glycol or a methyl ether thereof or polypropylene glycol. The coupler may be introduced into the emulsion by forming a dispersion of colour coupler in the protective colloid by agitation or by dissolving an alkali metal salt of the coupler in the colloid and then acidifying, and then adding the dispersion to the emulsion, or the solution of the coupler salt in the colloid may be added to the emulsion and then acidified. |
