[Also in Division A5] A reservoir for the storage and/or reclaiming of blood comprises a chamber 12 having a vent 14 on an upper portion thereof, an inlet 32 and an outlet 42 on a lower portion, inlet 32 having a tube 36 extending into chamber 12 a blood spreading plate 38 mounted on the tube 36 and a blood-filter 44 and sub-reservoir 52 including a bag-like filter 48 and a hollow pouch of anti-foam material 46 within the filter, the blood-filter and sub-reservoir occupying a substantial portion of the volume of chamber 12 so that blood may occupy a substantial portion of the interior of chamber 12 without covering the entire blood-filter and sub-reservoir. Chamber 12 consists of two hollow transparent plastics material hemispheres 12a, 12b bonded together at flanges 12c, 12d. Tube 36 communicates with a pair of inlets (30) 32 which diverge outwardly from a plate 26 of an assembly 24 secured in a circular opening 18 in the part 12b. The filter 44 comprises a polypropylene filter mesh 46 coated with a silicone anti-foaming material and enclosed in a nylon bag 48. Filter 44 is spaced from the outlet 42 by a projecting rib 39 on tube 36 and indentations 22 on the part 12b adjacent a flange 20 around opening 18. |
