PURPOSE:To shorten time for reproducing a ROM area by providing a process to detect the fault of the ROM area for the unit of a sector and a process to record a correct data into the alternative area concerning the defective ROM sector. CONSTITUTION:In a recording area having recording tracks composed of a lot of sectors, the ROM area recording information in advance not to record anything by a user is mixed with the ROM area to record/reproduce the information by the user, and a table for alternative sector is provided at a prescribed position in a RAM area for an information recording medium. Concerning this medium, the defective ROM sector inspection process is provided to detect the fault of the ROm area for the unit of the sector, and the defective ROM area alternate processing process is provided to record the correct data into the alternative area of the RAM and to provide the alternative ROM sector concerning the defective ROM sector detected by this inspection process. Thus, the time for reproducing the ROM area can be shortened, recording capacity can be increased and economicity can be improved. |
