1,183,869. Trailer braking systems. USTAV PRO VYZKUM MOTOROVYCH VOZIDEL. 15 Dec., 1967 [23 Dec., 1966], No. 57062/67. Heading F2F. In a compressed-air braking system for trailer vehicles having control and charging lines leading to the trailer a single air reservoir supplies both these lines through an air-flow restricting member, the ratio of the volume of the reservoir to the volume of the pipelines and spaces in the braking elements being between 15: 1 and 2:1. In Fig. 2 a small reservoir 4 is connected to a larger reservoir 7 through a member 8 which can be a throttle valve, an orifice or an overflow valve which only restricts air-flow when the pressure in reservoir 4 has fallen to a predetermined value. Under normal conditions replenishment of reservoir 7 is unimpeded but if the pressure in reservoir 4 falls due to a break in the control pipeline 6 or breakaway of the trailer sufficient braking action is obtained. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown) the reservoir 4 is omitted; the reservoir 7 then should have a volume less than the sum of the volumes of the reservoirs of Fig. 2. |
