1,247,084. Polymerization of organosilicon compounds. DOW CORNING CORP. 2 Oct., 1969 [24 Oct., 1968], No. 48421/69. Heading C3T. Polymers are obtained by mixing (A) an organosilicon compound or [RR<SP>1</SP>SiO] 3 or [RHSiO] 4 or one of average unit formula R<SP>11</SP> a Si(X 0À5 ) 4-a , wherein each R is a methyl or ethyl radical, each R<SP>1</SP> is a methyl or ethyl radical or H, each R<SP>11</SP> is a monovalent hydrocarbon or halohydrocarbon radical and each X is O or a divalent hydrocarbon or halohydrocarbon radical, a being 0À7 to 2À5, and each X 0 . 5 being bonded to another of like kind and at least one X 0À5 being O 0À5 attached to O 0À5 H (forming an OH group), with (B) a reaction product from tetranitromethane and a naphthyl compound or a compound having an aromatic structure bonded to a carbon atom of an aliphatic C-C double bond. Suitable conventional values of R<SP>11</SP> and X are listed, as are suitable aromatic unsaturated compounds for (B). In examples the reaction product from tetranitromethane and 1: 1 diphenylethylene is mixed with nitrobenzene and used to catalyse the polymerization of [1-3] in tetrahydrofuran or tetrahydrofuran containing dimethylsulphoxide (DMSO) as promoter, or in CH 3 O(CH 2 CH 2 O) 4 CH 3 acetonitrile, hexane, pentanone-2, benzene or nitrobenzene, or [4] of [(CH 3 ) 2 SiO] 3 in benzene (or toluene, tetrahydrofuran or cyclohexane) with DMSO, or [5] of [(CH 3 )HSiO] 4 with DMSO or acetonitrile, or [6] of a polydimethylsiloxane diol in cyclohexane with DMSO. In Examples 8 and 9 the reaction products from C(NO 2 ) 4 and #-naphthol or α- methylstyrene are used in nitrobenzene with DMSO or acetonitrile to catalyse the tetramethyl cyclosilethylenesiloxane polymerization. |
