Mortar composition contains 5-15 parts by wt. polystyrene foam particles covered with ground volcanic tufa (I), 5-30 parts ground trass (II), 5-20 parts cement (III), 0.01-0.1 parts soap (IV). Plaster composition contains 10-20 parts (I), 2.5-15 parts (II), 5-20 parts (III), 0.01-0.1 parts (IV) and 10-40 parts chalk. Up to 0.5 parts of an organic or inorganic fibre 6-30 mm. long and 6-30 den. thick may also be present. On mixing with water a thixotropic plastic mass is obtained which is used to make thick heat-insulating walls or for pipe insulation.
