1278436 Safety ski bindings H MARKER 3 Oct 1969 [12 Nov 1968] 48799/69 Heading A6D A toe-holding or heel-holding device for safety ski bindings comprises a sole holder mounted for movement relative to a part of the device that is to be fixed to the ski, a releasable locking device comprising spring means and adapted to prevent movement of the sole holder until a desired "release hardness" is reached, and means including a shock absorber permitting damped movement of the sole holder without release of the locking device. The "release hardness" is defined as the force required to release the associated skiing boot from a ski. The toe-holding device shown, Fig. 1, comprises a sole-holder 3 mounted for sliding movement in a dovetail guide in a carrying member 2 mounted on a ski-mountable plate 1. The locking device, preventing rotation of sole holder 3 and member 2 about pin 11 on plate 1, comprises a ball 14 urged into detent hole 13 by spring 15 and threaded plug 16. The shock absorber, serving to damp the sliding of sole holder 3 in the dovetail guide, comprises, Fig. 2, springs 7, 8 abutting plugs 5, 6 in sole holder 3 and abutting partition 9 extending from member 2. The heel-holding device shown, Fig. 5, comprises a sole holder 27 slidably mounted on carrier member 25 mounted on pivot 24 on ski-mountable housing 1. The locking device, permitting the pivoting of member 25 and the lifting of sole holder 27, comprises member 39 urged by spring 38 and threaded plug 40 to retain roller 35 in recess in member 25. The shock absorber, serving to clamp the sliding of sole holder 27 on member 25, comprises screw 30 rotatably attached to sole holder 27, part 29 captive in sole holder 27, and spring 33 between the nut and the web 26 on member 25. In both embodiments the locking device, after adjustment to give the desired "release hardness", is covered by a sealed plate. The locking devices may alternatively have a non- adjustable spring. In alternative embodiments, the shock absorber may lie between the carrying member and the part mountable on the ski, and the locking device may lie between the sole holder and the carrying member. |
