[Also in Division D1] Water-soluble synthetic polycondensates, used as blocking agents in dyeing, are prepared by condensing a bisphenol sulphone, an aromatic carboxylic or sulphonic acid and formaldehyde in an acidic medium. The aromatic acids are preferably #-naphthalene sulphonic acid and p-phenol sulphonic acid (cf. Examples 1 and 2) and the condensates have the general formulµ wherein X is H, halogen, OH, C 1 -C 6 alkyl or nitro and R is a naphthalene residue. |
