1,239,256. Measuring displacement. KENT. INSTRUMENTS Ltd. Oct.3, 1969 [Oct. 4, 1968], No.47148/68. Heading G1N. [Also in Division H1] A variable differential transformer has air-gaps, adjustable in the same sense, between its armature(s) and stators, this adjustment altering the sensitivity of the transformer to a movement of the armature(s), which movement produces a differential variation of the air-gaps. In Figs. 1 and 2 an armature 9 secured to a bifurcated lever 8 is situated between a pair of U-shaped stators 12. The armature(s) and stators may be laminated and of ferrite. The lever connected to a cross-bar .4 by a pair of flexure pivots 6, has leaf springs 15 preventing transverse motion and a counterweight 11 preventing vibration and gravity effects. A mechanical input to the armature in the direction of arrow 10 is detected by one of two windings on the stators 12. The sensitivity of the transformer can be adjusted by relative movement of the stators and armature in the direction of arrow 10 or perpendicular to that direction. For the latter adjustment, stator and armature corresponding faces are inclined to the perpendicular with the movement of the armature controlled by screw 20. In a second embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown) two armatures are disposed on a pivoted lever, opposite their respective stators which can be raised or lowered together by cam followers associated with a rotatable grooved disc attached to the armature support levers.
|
