PURPOSE:To permit the ingot having a larger diameter to be cut with a blade of the conventional size by a method wherein the ingot is sliced successively in different directions. CONSTITUTION:An ingot 1 is first fed in a first radial direction of a blade to an ingot fixing stand while being cut, preferably not more than one half its entire size, then moved back to the center O of the blade and thereafter moved in a second radial direction of the blade approximately perpendicular to the first direction thereof to cut off the remainder of the ingot. Preferably, the ingot is first cut in the first radial direction, for example, a direction 3 at an angle of 45 deg. to a perpendicular line of the ingot fixing stand 2 penetrating to a point 5 of intersection of the perpendicular line 4 passing through the center of the ingot 1 and the ingot fixing stand 2 and then in the second radial direction 6 at an angle of 90 deg.+ or -20 deg. to the first radial direction, thereby completing the cutting of the ingot 1 in its entirety. The maximum cutting amount required at this time can be made much smaller than that required for the entire cutting by feeding in only the first radial direction. |
