1,198,944. Control of two A.C. motors. SIEMENS A.G. 21 Feb., 1968 [22 Feb., 1967], No. 8337/68. Headings H2A and H2J. An asynchronous motor and a synchronous machine are coupled through gearing so that the machine operates either as a motor or as a generator in accordance with the load on the drive system. The synchronous machine has a nominal mechanical power between 40% and 50% of the maximum output power of the drive system, whilst the asynchronous motor has a power output which corresponds with the difference between the maximum power output and the motor power which can be developed by the synchronous machine. The gearing is arranged to match the speed of the asynchronous motor, at which it produces the desired power to the speed of the synchronous machine. Due to the coupling between the machines, the asynchronous motor is forced to maintain a constant speed and slip, which determines the output power, load fluctuations being absorbed by the synchronous machine. |
