The dry chlorination of P.V.C. is effected with gaseous chlorine and a photochemically active source in the presence of a chlorination carrier and gaseous hydrogen in an amount up to 10% by wt. of the chlorine. The irradiation may be applied to the reacting mixture or just to the chlorine and optionally hydrogen at the reactor inlet. Chloroform and carbon tetrachloride are used as carriers. |
