1,274,151. Welding. electrode holders. L. CHICHE. 24 April, 1970 [25 April, 1969], No. 19708/70. Heading H5H. An angled hand-holder for a welding rod, gripped by a jaw 3, is enclosed by a tubular insulating handle 5, secured against a shoulder 9 by a nut 13 and having an oblique end face 6 against which is located an insulating cap 26. The cap has one end of a spring blade 28 embedded in it. so that the free end 29 can snap behind a recess 30 in the head of the holder, to prevent removal of the cap. If the cap becomes damaged in use, it is removed by breaking it and another is pressed into position. The handle 5 and cap 26 have internal ventilation grooves 24, 31 communicating with an orifice formed at the angle between the cap and handle and this also serves to locate the handle by engaging a V-shaped projection 11 on the holder. The point of entry of the cable into the holder may be protected by a metal sleeve 16 screwed to the latter and enclosed by an insulating guard see Fig. 2 (not shown). |
