The dc hv circuit, for linking more than two ac phase networks, has static converters at each junction with the networks. The static converters have dc-side commutation and dc-side capacitive stores. The effective and apparent powers in the networks are controlled by using a dc voltage to regulate the magnitude and the phase of the individual converter ac voltages. This dc control voltage has a polarity that is independent of the direction in which energy is being transferred.
