In the dobby, plates or the like are linked to reciprocating balance levers and can be lifted into and lowered from the laying-in point by a control. The plates are respectively form-lockingly guided in aholder which can move up and down. Preferably the holder is moved by a knee lever, which can be displaced by a controllable drive between its dead point and a knee position.
