Crystalline diamond bodies, monocrystals used as seeds for larger diamond bodies, are produced by placing diamond dust in a precipitation zone having the form of the diamond body to be produced and heated to 600-1600 degrees C; a gaseous compound containing a methyl group, preferably methane is passed through the zone. Alternatively, a monocrystalline diamond filament is used, around which a monocrystalline diamond body is grown radially. This body can be subsequently cut to obtain monocrystalline filaments. The products are suitable for the manufacture of jewellery and for industrial applications. |
