A continuous feed of wire mesh is supplied, to be cut into sections to be passed between the ends of the thermoplastic strip material to be spliced for use in tyre manufacture. The edges of the wire mesh are in contact with two electrodes, forming part of the press, and application of the pressure lever triggers a time switch for the application of low tension welding current.
