Shaded-pole motor with specified narrow regions - in each salient-pole with shaded-pole windings on every other pole

The shaded-pole motor has identical salient poles alternately with and without shaded-poles and their associated short-circuited windings. For higher pole numbers the polarity alternates from pole to pole whilst for lower poled circuits it alternates from adjacent pole-pair to pole-pair. A precisely-defined narrow region is located at the centre of each salient pole, enclosed by the yoke ring. Each shaded-pole curvature is less than 2/5 but greater that 1/5 of the pole curvature between narrow regions. In the diagram, every second salient pole carries a shaded-pole winding to one side of the narrow region, formed by a recess cut out of each salient pole. The given shape of these narrow regions improves the motor efficiency and power by reducing losses.
