10 The present invention, to be deemed both a device and a method, relates to the area of testing and/or measuring, i.e. detecting surface cracks via eddy currenttechnology. The invention can be summarized as follows. A method or device, e.g. measuring head, based on the use of eddy current technology, comprising a part-device (4) of electrically conducting material, e.g. steel, this part-device being provided with arrangements (10), e.g. grooves which render more difficult the formation of eddy currents in the part-device, thereby reducing the dampening influence of the part-device on the magnetic/eddy-current flux necessary for the measurement. Besides offering protection for the transducer/sensor (2), the part-device (4) may also have several other functions to fulfil.
