[Also in Division B2] A fibrous material is coated electrostatically after impregnation with a conductive liquid to render the material electrically conductive. The conductive liquid may be water and may include antistatic surface-active agents, ammonia, acetic acid alcohols for controlling the rate of evaporation of water, or electrolytes, e.g. NaCl. The fibrous material is preferably impregnated until just saturated, e.g. with 20-50 wt. % of the impregnant, by spraying showering or dipping, excess liquid being removed by squeezer or centrifuge. The coating material may be chlorosulphonated polyethylene or polychloroprene rubber; one or more coats may be applied electrostatically by a rotary cup or by spraying, and subsequently vulcanised. The fibrous material may be cotton, nylon or polyester textile or a dress or raincoat made therefrom. |
