Coking nut coals by heat-transfer process

Coke of very low bulk weight and high porosity, suitable for use in electric furnaces is produced by using nut-coals in place of briquettes in the continuous shock heat-coking process of DT. 1571639 for coking of briquettes from carbonaceous material with fine-grained hot heat-transfer agents circulated in closed cycle. Pref. coking of nut coals takes place in sequence semi-anthracite, medium rank semi-bituminous coal, bituminous coal and open-burning coal at 770-850 degrees C, 670-740 degrees C, 790-840 degrees C and 790-880 degrees C.
