Polymeric foam is continuously cast on a conveyer and the sides of the foam are restrained by a lining which moves and rises with the foam so that the top surface of the foam, after setting, is substantially flat. The lining surfaces move over side surfaces and are stretched longitudinally in the area where the foam rises so that there is no substantial relative movement between the top of the foam and the lining surface. The lining surface 96 is stretched between idler rolls 11 and pinch rolls 12, the idler rolls comprising two non-parallel rollers around which the sheet runs, the rollers being rotatable about the vertical to increase the stretching and the angle of rise of the sheet. The positions of the rolls 11, 12 are longitudinally adjustable. |
