1,204,224. Curing epoxy resins. CIBA Ltd. 21 June, 1968 [22 June, 1967], No. 29783/68. Heading C3B. Adducts useful in curing epoxy resins are prepared from a polyepoxide (I) and a cycloaliphatic-aliphatic diprimary diamine (II) in which the first amino group is attached to an aliphatic side chain and the second amino group is attached to an endocyclic carbon atom of the cycloaliphatic ring. From 0.6 to 1.2 moles of II are used per epoxide equivalent of I. Adduct formation may take place at 60-180‹ C. Examples of II are: 3 - aminomethyl - 3,5,5 - trimethylcyclohexylamine; 1,8 - diamino - p - menthane; and 2 - aminomethylcyclopentylamine. The polyepoxide reacts preferentially with the first aliphatic amino group having the second cycloaliphatic amino group available for subsequent curing. Compositions of epoxy resins and the above adduct may be used in conjuction with conventional additives in moulding powders and coating compositions which are shelf-stable at ambient temperatures. |
