2,7-dichlorofluorenone - prepn by oxidn of chlorinated fluorene

Process for prepg. pure 2,7-dichlorofluorenone by direct chlorination of fluorene in a solvent at 100 degrees - solvent b. pt. under exclusion of sunlight then removing excess Cl2 and oxidising the product with 0.8-2.5 pref. 0.9-2.0 mol alkali dichromate/mol. fluorene at 80 degrees - solvent b. pt. Specif. solvents are glacial acetic acid or propionic acid. The cpd. is an inter. for the prepn. of dyes and drugs.
