1391723 Multiple jointed hinges AUGUST BILSTEIN 20 March 1972 [20 March 1971] 12823/72 Heading E2F A window or a door comprises a wing 4 mounted in a frame 7, the wing having an outwardly extending facing 4' which, when the wing is closed, Fig. 1 and Figs. 4, 7, 10 (not shown) extends across a gap between the wing and the frame, the wing being connected to the frame by a mechanism which allows a horizontal edge of the wing to be pivoted about a substantially vertical axis 8, Figs. 2, 5, 8 (not shown) and Fig. 11, or to be withdrawn away from and parallel to the frame, Fig. 3 and Figs. 6, 9 and 12 (not shown), the mechanism comprising an arm 1 having one end 1' connected to the wing and the other end connected by a pivot 1''' to a guide member 9 which is pivotally connected to the frame 7 at 10 and is pivotally connected at 14 between its ends to a control member 13 whose ends 13' and 13" are respectively pivoted to the frame and coupled to the arm 1 so that when the wing is opened the pivot 1"' is displaced with respect to the frame, and on pivoting is displaced about the axis 8 so that the facing 4' does not strike the frame, and so that in all positions the pivot 1''' is not visible when the wing is viewed from a frontal position. The corner of the opposite horizontal edge of the wing is mounted by a suitable hinge to allow the said movement. The control member 13 may be connected to the arm 1 by a sliding pivot 13", Figs. 1 and 3, or by means of a pivoted link arm 17, Figs. 4-12. The connections 10 and 14 of the guide member 9 to the frame and to the control member and the connection of the control member to the frame may be fixed or sliding pivots in the four embodiments described. |
