PURPOSE:To obtain a product having uniform quality in high efficiency by isolating and kneading glucomannan particles of the tuberous root of devil's- tongue using a twin-screw extruder, thereby hydrating and swelling the particle in a short time. CONSTITUTION:Raw or frozen tuberous root of devil's-tongue is properly charged to a conventional twin-screw extruder. The tissue of the tuberous root is destructed in the barrel, theexposed glucomannan is kneaded to form a hydrated and swollen sol and the product is mixed with an alkali. The above procedures are continuously performed. The hydration of the isolated glucomannan gel to form a sol is preferably carried out in the presence of 10-100 pts. wt. of water based on 1 pt. wt. of the glucomannan particle to improve the efficiency of pulverization, kneading, feeding and heating procedures. The slurry delivered from the extruder is filled in a prescribed vessel and gelatinized with heat to obtain the objective product. A product having desired shape can be formed by selecting the form of the extrusion die. |
