摘要 1394274 Measuring light scattering photoelectrically SCIENCE SPECTRUM Inc 1 May 1972 [3 May 1971] 20216/72 Heading G1A The light scattering properties of a plurality of individual samples, e.g. bacteria/drug solutions in cuvettes 116, are examined by bringing each sample in turn to a testing station, irradiating it with light, e.g. from a laser 34, and measuring the intensity of scattered light as a function of wavelength. The angular scan is achieved by a mirror arrangement 40 which travels along a track 42 as soon as a cuvette is stationary and thereby directs light to a photo-multiplier, photo-diode or bolometer in housing 64. Instead of a continuous intensity measurement, a number of measurements may be made at different positions in the angular range available. The output from the photo-cell is displayed on a chart recorder. One of the samples may be a reference e.g. a solution of a particular bacteria only, and the others are then samples of the same bacteria to which different drugs have been added. In this case the reference output is compared with each of the other outputs in a logarithmic ratio device, whose output is applied to the chart recorder or punched on to a card. The sequence of events including the stepping of cuvettes into position and the recording of the measurements is governed by control circuitry, Fig.6 (not shown).
