Accurately bent strips of wear resistant air hardening (esp. ledeburitic chromium) steel sheet of defined composition esp. for slingers are produced economically by pressing sheet cut mechanically to required tolerances in a water cooled tool at the hardening temp. After cooling to 500-600 degrees C, they are removed from tool and cooled in a clamp. Any inaccuracies in curvature are corrected by sandblasting midpoint of arc internally or externally respectively to increase or decrease the chord length. Heat treatment necessary to produce specified mechanical properties is incorporated in fabrication process. |
