1371577 Crating of bottles WINTERWERB STRENG & CO GmbH 21 June 1972 [22 June 1971] 29090/72 Heading B8C A bottle crating apparatus for pick-up and set-down of bottles or like containers comprises a traverse or carriage 8 running in lateral guideways and having fastened thereto means for gripping and releasing the containers, the traverse being driven in use by continuously rotating chains 1 arranged vertically in the zone of pick-up and set-down station respectively, wherein a lever arm 5 is connected at one end A, B to one of the chain links such that it is perpendicular to the direction of movement of the chain, the lever arm having the same effective length as that of the radius R of a sprocket 2 engaging the chain at each of the pick-up and set-down positions, and the traverse or carriage being pivoted to the other end M of the lever arm, the arrangement being such that the position of the pivotal connection between the traverse or carriage and the lever arm, is coincident with the axis of rotation of the respective sprocket when the traverse or carriage is at the pick-up or set-down position whereby the traverse or carriage remains stationary while the one chain link is in engagement with the sprocket. As shown, in which the lever arm 5 is in the form of a triangular plate and the pivotal connection M is made by a bolt 10, the plate is guided by a wheel 6 in a guideway 7 and the bolt 10 is guided in a guideway 3. Further bolts or rollers may be fastened to the traverse for guiding movement thereof, in guideways (31), (32), Fig. 3 (not shown). In the arrangement according to Fig. 5 a traverse 37 carrying a packing head 38 is guided along a guideway 36 and a stabilizing guideway 39, and in use bottles 41 on a conveyer 42 are gripped by tulip-type grips on the head 38 and moved by the traverse 37 to a position above a receiver 43 on a conveyer 44. |
