<p>Liquid crystal cell has pair of parallel transparent support plates separated by crystalline liquid and electrode on facing surfaces. One or both surfaces (16, 18) of the support plates (12, 14) has a ground layer (26, 28) which contains silicon dioxide. The electrodes (22, 24) are placed on the support plates (12, 14). An edge pad is provided between the support plates (12, 14), so that a hermetically sealed chamber is formed which contains the crystalline liquid (30). The edge pad (20) is made of glass and extends round the support plates. The electrodes (22, 24) project beyond the edge pad (20) and the projections are used as terminals.</p> |
