The switch actuating lever lies within the reach of the driver's fingers on the steering wheel. The lever switching plane is parallel to that of the steering wheel and is marked with an ON and OFF position respectively. The actuating lever (2) is kept in the ON position (II) by a holder which can be released by an additional movement (8) of the actuating lever. The holder is preferably so designed that the actuating lever is moved in its ON position without any additional resistance. The additional movement is first carried out in the ON direction (9) and then in the OFF direction (10). The additional movement is carried out by an auxiliary handle, acting on the holder. The holder has a guide member (3, 4) secured to the switch housing (1), with a latching chamfer (5), while a latching groove is provided on the actuating lever.
