The plastic container comprises a floor and four upright walls, the tops of which are doubled over to form a portion with J-shaped cross-section. The outside (14) of each wall (2) forming the long arm of the J-section is stepped inwards from a point (15) below the end (12) of the short arm (7) to the floor (1), reducing the wall thickness. The distance of the point (15) from the floor, or from a flange (16) higher than the floor, can be at least equal to its distance from the underside of the top transverse web (8) of the J-section.
