Two stroke IC engine - has cam operated inlet valve and piston controlled exhaust ports in cylinder

The engine has a piston reciprocating in a cylinder. There is a poppet type inlet valve in the head of the cylinder worked by a cam on a camshaft driven by the engine. At the lower part of the cylinder there are exhaust ports uncovered by the piston as it reaches the bottom of its stroke. The inlet valve is timed to open before the exhaust ports are uncovered on the downstroke and to close after they are covered on the up stroke. This gives good scavenging. The engine is supercharged by an air pump driven by the engine.
