PURPOSE:To comparatively reduce residual potentials in both positive and negative electrostatic chargings, to improve balance between them, and further, to stabilize photosensitive characteristics by lowering the oxygen content in an Se vapor deposited film below a specified value. CONSTITUTION:An Se vapor deposited film is manufactured as an electrophotographic sensitive body by reducing the oxygen content in a source Se, and vapor depositing it in vacuum to reduce it below 10ppm. Se as the source of vacuum deposition can be reduced to the min. oxygen content by evaporation of Se in high vacuum, reduced pressure distillation of Se in high-purity H2, storing Se shots in vacuum or in an inert gas, etc. An Se photosensitive body having the oxygen content of <=10ppm exhibits well-balanced residual potential characteristics considerably low in negatively charged residual potential, and small in dark decay, and the characteristics of Se as a photosensitive body are overall stabilized.
