In order to check the mounting of electronic component leads in the holes of a circuit board (1), the solder side of the circuit board (1) is lit by light aimed perpendicular to the circuit board from a first light source (20) and from light falling on the circuit board at an angle from a second light source. Two computer images are taken by means of a camera - one for each lighting angle. The computer image taken of the perpendicular light is used to detect holes with leads bent on the back of the circuit board. This is compared with a stored reference of the positions of the holes requiring leads. A new reference is created from this of the holes that should have a lead but do not have one that is bent. The computer image taken of the angled light is used to detect holes with leads that go straight through. This is compared with the new reference. If there are still holes that should have a lead but have neither a bent nor a straight lead, there is a fault indication. Otherwise, the circuit board is considered satisfactory.<IMAGE> |
