PURPOSE:To prevent the overflow of a coating material from a spacing by providing said spacing between a coating material supply port of a coating material box and roll disposed in proximity thereto, supplying the coating material beyond the level of the coating material supply port and reducing the pressure on the coating material box to suck the outdoor air from the above-mentioned spacing. CONSTITUTION:The spacing is provided between the coating material supply port 11 of the coating material box 10 and the roll 20 disposed in proximity thereto and while the coating material is supplied beyond the level of the supply port 11, the pressure in the coating material box is reduced to suck the outdoor air from the above-mentioned spacing and to prevent the overflow of the coating material from the spacing. The coating material is received onto the roll surface from the above- mentioned spacing by the rotation of the roll 20 and after a desired amt. of the coating material is removed from the roll surface by the rotation of the roll 20 by the air flow sucked from the spacing, the coating material on the roll surface is coated on the surface to be coated or the roll is moistened with the coating material or the same solvent as the solvent used for the coating material and the coating material once applied on the material to be coated is scraped away by which the coating material on the surface is removed. The contamination of the device is thus prevented.
