PURPOSE:To bury strong and cheap light-weight materials in the ground by a method in which expandible small synthetic resin foam pieces having reexpanding function when left in the open air are charged into bags, and the opening of the bags is closed and the small resin pieces are reexpanded to integrate with the bags. CONSTITUTION:Small expanded styrene-acrylonitrile resin pieces 6 which are heated by steam for 60 seconds are charged into a cylindrical bag 4 of woven nylon cloth from its opening 7 through a hopper 5. The opening 7 of the bag 4 is closed and the bag 4 is allowed to stand for about 2 days. The small pieces 6 are reexpanded to fill the bag 4 with the reexpanded body 8 to form a light- weight material 1. The material 1 formed by integrating the bag 4 and the body 8 closely packed into the bag 4 is buried in the ground. High-quality light-weight banking material having strength enough to stand loading and a structure enough to interrupt groundwater can thus be obtained.
