PURPOSE:To have a gaseous discharge display of stable driving action and high-brightness image display by forming a pair of first and second electrodes as a displaying and discharging electrode, and then forming a pair of third and fourth electrodes as an auxiliary discharging electrode independently of the displaying and discharging electrode. CONSTITUTION:A frontal glass-substrate 1 is faced to a back glass-substrate 2, and then an electric discharge region formed therebetween is dividedly formed into plural electric discharge subregions by dielectric layers 10a. On the lower side of the substrate 1 in this electric discharge region are arranged display cathode bus-bars 16 and auxiliary cathode bus-bars 20, all of which are orthogonal respectively to the dielectric layers 10a, and display cathodes 15 and auxiliary cathodes 19, all of which are protruded respectively from the cathode bus-bars 16, 20. On the upper side of the substrate 2 on the other hand, auxiliary anodes 17 are arranged respectively on the positions of the substrate 2 whereto the cathodes 19 are faced respectively. Then a displaying and electric discharging region DC composed of another anode 13 and the cathode 15, and an auxiliary electric discharging region SC composed of the anode 17 and the cathode 19 are respectively formed in each of the electric discharge subregions dividedly formed in the shape of a matrix respectively by the dielectric layers 10a, the bus bars 16 and the bus bars 20, all of which are located respectively on light cutoff layers 12 formed on the substrate 1.
