The invention relates to a method for coating a metal strip with metal, especially for coating a steel strip with zinc or a zinc-nickel compound by means of at least one current-carrying galvanic cell containing an electrolyte, through which the metal strip is lead, wherein the current causes a layer of metal coating to be deposited on the metal strip and the current, among other things, is regulated according to the properties of the galvanic cell in such a way that a layer corresponding to a desired thickness is deposited on the metal strip.
