The vehicle seat consists of a seat back (4), which includes padding (10), supported by a rigid frame (12) and covered by a trim cover (21). The seat back presents a front face (5), which is designed to support the back of the seat user and two side edges (6), which form a frame for the front face. The seat back is also fitted with a safety device (7) in the form of an air bag, which is designed to inflate and to deploy laterally relative to the seat occupant, in the event of a shock load. The safety device is fitted within a box (8), which is formed with a side wall (17) and a front face (18), which are designed to open, when the bag inflates. The box is integrated into the padding of the seat back and the seat cover is provided with a cut, limited by an edge (20), which is aligned with the front face of the air bag box.
