PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain aβ-1,3 glucan from which contaminating proteins are simply and efficiently removed, and also to provide a contact medium for a probe of an ultrasonic diagnostic device, excellent in physical properties and safety, consisting of a gel containing the above purifiedβ-1,3 glucan as a main component. SOLUTION: This purifiedβ-1,3 glucan is obtained by removing contaminating proteins by performing the ultrasonic treatment in a mixed solution of organic solvents containing at least dimethylsulfoxide, and a contact medium for a probe of an ultrasonic diagnostic device consisting of a gel containing the aboveβ-1,3 glucan from which the contaminating proteins are removed, as a main component, is excellent in desired physical properties and safety.
