PURPOSE:To improve bedding and proliferation of a microorganism and activation of physiological action thereof by blending chamotte grains with clay and Ca compound, forming the blend and burning the formed article. CONSTITUTION:100 pts.wt. ceramic-forming material consisting of 10-65wt.% chamotte grains having 30-2000mum grain diameter, 15-80wt.% kaolin clay, Ca compound (e.g. CaCO3) of 2-20wt.% expressed in terms of CaO and as necessary 1-20wt.% silica is blended with 3-30 pts.wt. organic pore-forming material (e.g. sawdust) and the blend is subjected to extrusion molding to provide the cylindrical molded article having 2-15mm diameter and 2-30mm length. Then the molded article is dried and then burned in air at 1000-1300 deg.C to provide the porous ceramic consisting of 40-70wt.% SiO2, 15-45wt.% Al2O3, 2-20wt.% CaO and <=2wt.% alkali metal oxide content, having a composition of CaO-Al2O3-SiO2 and having 30-70% open porosity, <=10% closed porosity and 5-100mum average porous diameter. |
