The control unit has a control knob that can be lowered from an operating position into a parked position in an opening in a control panel of the device. A sensor unit behind the control panel detects rotation of the control knob. The lowering mechanism has an axially fixed part and an axially movable control knob part (7). The sensor unit has a contactless sensor (23) fixed to the housing and the axially movable control knob part has markings (25) detectable by the sensor.
