PURPOSE: A line erase device and a method for PDP(plasma display panel) are provided to erase sustain discharge while varying the erase position of respective line per a bit in higher bits(the sixth to eighth sub fields) and fixing the position in the other lower bits(the first to fifth sub fields), thereby decreasing the brightness difference between bit lines. CONSTITUTION: The line erase device for plasma display panel comprises a PDP controller(100), a bit corresponding erase position decider(210), an erase position generator(230), an electrode timing controller(250), a panel(300) and plural electrode drivers(350,370,390). The PDP controller(100) divides and loads externally input video data and then generates record, scan and sustain control signals. The bit corresponding erase position decider(210) receives and adds the video data from the controller(100) to calculate a mean value and then decides the erase position per a line of the bit in accordance with the mean value. The erase position generator(230) generate an erase position variable signal per respective bit line. |
