PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize cleaning without any unevenness by specifying the frequency when toner that is stuck is returned to a photoreceptor side by being applied with AC bias when cleaning a transfer member. SOLUTION: In the cleaning method carrying out cleaning by returning the toner that is stuck to a transfer member by applying AC bias, the frequency of the AC bias is determined so that it is not made to be an integer number multiple of the number of rotation of a transfer roll and cleaning a whole surface without any unevenness can be carried out with a small number of rotation.
